Treat panic attack

Who should treat a panic attack? A psychologist or a psychiatrist?
You did not mention if you or someone you know panic attacks or if you were seeking treatment, so I'll answer your question as you asked, panic disorder can be treated by either a psychologist or a psychiatrist. The most effective drugs for chronic panic attack is a class known as SSRIs (eg Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa). They can be prescribed by a psychiatrist (MD), but not a psychologist (PhD). It takes 3-4 weeks to take effect, but the psychiatrist can provide another drug (eg, Pindolol, Klonopin) in average time that can help and may even accelerate the effect of SSRIs. One can also get psychotherapy for panic disorder, made either by a psychologist or a psychiatrist. The most effective type of psychotherapy for panic is known as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT is usually done over 12 weeks, showing good efficacy after 8 weeks or so. Both SSRIs and CBT are 75-90% effective in controlled clinical trials. Unfortunately, there is no independent evidence that off-the-shelf programs such as the Linden Method and Panic Away are effective. There is a lot of inaccurate information about anxiety and the brain and complaints CBT on the site of Linden method, which makes me more skeptical. They claim to have sold 80,000 kits with more than 97% efficiency, but does not say how they measure the effectiveness. Once they have a money back guarantee, its effectiveness "rate" may be an indication of their customers who do not ask for a refund. A lot of people spend money on things that do not work and do not get your money back. The most serious problem is that they do not know who your customers are, for diagnosis. Will they do have panic disorder? They are buying the kit for someone? Even more disturbing, there seems to be a multitude of sites that claim to be reviews Linden Method, but that look like advertisements for unbiased opinions. What I read did not even attempt any review of the literature and evidence. They were too short to be legitimate reviews, and seemed intended to convince the reader as soon as possible that the method was effective. Finally, a nail in the coffin from my perspective is the "nine pillars "that the Linden Method will ask you to follow. Here are six of them: Stop to visit your doctor, talk to your doctor about stopping the medication Stop looking answers to their problems somewhere else just use the Stop method Linden talk to others about how you feel Stop relying on others to help with your feelings It seems more a cult than a treatment. None of these six has nothing to do with the treatment of panic attacks and no responsible psychiatrist or psychologist would recommend these things. Seems anti-therapeutic for me, to be honest. Anyway, as I said I'm not very familiar with the off-the-shelf methods, but it would be very careful if I were you and be accurate analysis of all available information. It may be worth making an appointment with a psychologist first and discuss the off-the-shelf methods before you actually buy them – If you are having panic attacks.
