Panic attacks while driving … what can I do?

Just recently I realized that I am very nervous / scared behind the wheel when I'm driving. I'm not afraid to get in a car or anything like that, just when I'm driving in a wide open road, for example, feel that the road will last forever and I have no control over my car so I am very abnormal tension to the point where I want to scream. My heart jumps and my body freezes and feels like if I had a mini panic attack. I had to push hard on the breaks and make a stop somewhere. The attack goes away very quickly after I catch my breath.
