Social anxiety test

There is much talk out there about the do-it-yourself methods of treatment for a variety of mental and emotional disorders including Social Anxiety Disorder. With care Rising medical costs and stagnant incomes, many people who suffer from this debilitating condition have turned to alternative treatments that can self-administer, instead of accumulating bills sometimes unsustainable resulting from traditional treatments administered by doctors and psychiatrists. Still, the obvious question arises: is social anxiety self help effective?

All studies to this point seems to provide mixed results regarding this issue. Social anxiety varies self-help of homeopathic techniques of deep breathing, yoga, meditation and self-hypnosis. The research suggests that, when used isolation, these techniques and treatments tend to have limited impact in reducing the anxiety of affected individuals. Part of the reason may be that almost all self-help treatment options focus on calming the mind and body, but can not resolve the important issues that are central to social anxiety: the thought processes patients.

Where self-help social anxiety has proved effective is when it is used in conjunction with therapeutic techniques that require the individual directly confront the processes of negative thoughts and fears. Unfortunately, most programs of self-help are missing in this area, leaving a huge gap in the wall defending the treatment of individual patients against their own irrational thoughts.

However, when combined with therapeutic practices, such self-help methods to obtain results that are about the same par with the traditional combination of therapy and medication. This would suggest that for many patients, medicines for the treatment of social anxiety can often be at least partially replaced by these methods of self-help.

More study, of course, needs to be done before the medical establishment will be put aside years of experience with the use of medications to treat the symptoms of the disorder. However, preliminary evidence seems to withstand a tremendous hope that the techniques of social anxiety self-help may one day have a dominant role in the medical treatment of the disease. If that were projection to happen, it can only serve to benefit patients, who no longer have to endure many negative side effects for medicines currently used to treat this disorder.
