Panic attacks while sleeping
Panic attacks during sleep?

You can have a panic attack during sleep? If so, how do you know thats whats wrong? I am a person very paranoid, and often worry there is somthing seriously wrong with me. Lately I've agreed with a rapid heart beat. I am not worried long and usually goes away when I calm down. This has only been happening for the last 3 days. I was recently placed on Toprol, but I know it is supposed to slow the heart down. This started about a week after I got it though. I had an EKG the day I was on Toprol and said everything was perfect. But why during the hours of sleep does not influence the results EKG right? I know I should seek medical help and I will If it does not go away, I was just wondering if maybe this happened to anyone else.

You can have a panic attack during sleep, but I want to emphasize that you should have done a stress test and also more than an electrocardiogram. An electrocardiogram shows only if you are really having a heart attack or arrhythmia at the time that is taken and also shows past heart damage. Depending on your age and other risk factors, you should seek medical help for it. Now, as for your panic attacks .. happened to me I have to agree with an attack. Because I have panic / anxiety disorder, I know that is what is happening. I was on drugs for the last 2 years and so the symptoms have decreased significantly. I think that happens in your time of sleep or rest is because this is when the body is more relaxed and "vulnerable" for an attack. It used to be common for me to have feelings of an attack while lying down resting. Again, the meds helped a lot and I do not have the paranoia that you spoke one of the most. Of course we also went through extensive therapy, along with the drugs … is something you can take control if you want. Good luck.
